PHILIPPINE COLLEGE OF HEMATOLOGY AND TRANSFUSION MEDICINE
Looking at the Rear view: A Year-end Reflection

Flordeluna Z. Mesina, MD, MSc

The overarching theme of the previous fiscal year was “Forward and Upwards,PCHTM!”. By following the 3C’s of leadership namely, consolidate, catalyze and collaborate, wewere able to achieve more than we planned and aimed for. The 3-year strategic planformulated last 2024 have always been the road map in navigating the College towards theright direction. A young organization took several years to strengthen its core, such that whenthe time came, I felt it was ready do more things than exists. Surprisingly, each member tappedwere willing to share their time, effort and talents. The major accomplishment was themobilization of members into standing committees and working groups, but most importantly, their engagement and commitment such that in the middle of the year; everyone was doing anincredible job like they were in “autopilot” mode.

As the year is about to end, let’s look back at the most remarkable events:

  1. 1.Successful accreditation of 7 training institutions
  2. 2. Robust PSBHTM work and exam outcome
  3. 3. Research capacity building through workshops
  4. 4. Formulation of PCHTM 5-year research agenda
  5. 5. Strong presence in multi-media platforms and digitalization of member directory
  6. 6. Collaborative CME initiative like Hemophilia summit, Anemia summit, Myeloma summit
  7. with e-cancer and 6 th annual convention with ISBT--“Bridging”
  8. 7. Introduction of single disorder symposium during midyear
  9. 8. Strong relationship with patient support groups
  10. 9. Launching of PCHTM Advocacy program plan, “Alam mo blood?”

This roadmap was not established in just a year but way back the creation of our organization.Just like constructing a fine architecture, the canvas, planning, foundation, and rough structureare just as important as the finish product. With the current trajectory of PCHTM, I am positivethat the future is bright and strong for our organization.Mabuhay ang PCHTM!
