The Philippine College of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine (PCHTM) is committed in supporting patient advocacy groups. Just recently, Blood Cancer Alliance of the Philippines spearheaded the celebration of Blood Cancer Awareness Month by creating an avenue to learn more about blood cancer and understand patients’ journey. The event brought together medical professionals, cancer patients/survivors and caregivers to discuss the latest advancements in cancer treatment, coping strategies, and support resources.
The forum featured presentations by Dr Clariza Santos, Vice-president of PCHTM and section chief of Hematology at Healthway Cancer Center, who shared insights into the basics of the blood cancer diagnosis and treatment. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the importance of early detection, regular check-ups, and the role of blood donation in cancer care. Beyond the medical presentation, the forum also provided a platform for cancer survivors to share their personal experiences and offer encouragement to others. The event fostered a sense of community and support among attendees, demonstrating the power of connection and resilience in the face of adversity.
The partnership between the PCHTM and Blood Cancer Alliance of the Philippines was instrumental in the success of this forum.
